Life Insurance for Diabetics

Contrary to popular belief diabetes doesn’t necessarily prevent you finding a reasonable priced life insurance policy.

Here at I’m Insured we often come across people who live life with a medical condition or conditions that they assume will mean they cannot get competitively priced life insurance or will not be eligible for any cover at all. Diabetes is one such condition.

There are thought to be 2.9 million people who have been diagnosed with diabetes in the UK and another 850,000 who are undiagnosed *. Although a condition such as diabetes will be taken into consideration with all insurers when applying for life assurance, it does not necessarily mean that you won’t be able to get a competitively priced deal.

There are some vital pieces of information you will be asked for during the application so it’s a good idea to have these to hand before you start. They include you most recent HBA1c reading as well as the date on which it was taken, details of any other related complications you may suffer from and the length of time since you where diagnosed with the condition.

But aren’t all insurers are the same?

A large part of what we do at I’m Insured is to take the time to understand each of our customers personal circumstances as well as what they hope to achieve in terms of their life insurance arrangements, for example to cover a mortgage, provider protection for their family or cover funeral expenses.

The reason why this is important and indeed why is it important to use an independent broker such as I’m Insured, is that different insurance provides will give different decisions (i.e. offers of insurance and price), based on how a person answers the questions relating to a medical condition. In actual fact there is a large degree of variation from provider to provider and this can have significant implications on the price an insurer will offer.

Even if you have been turned down for diabetes life insurance in the past it does not mean I’m Insured will not be able to help.

So why use I’m Insured for your diabetes life insurance?

There are a few good reasons actually. Firstly the above. If you suffer from a condition such as diabetes you are unfortunately not looking at an ‘off the shelf’ style policy. We will take the time to talk through with you your needs, taking onto consideration your diabetes and indeed working to your budget.

Secondly, we will provide you with all the options available to you from the whole of the market, allowing you to find the option that is best for you, be it the cheapest price or an insurer you are happy to deal with. Now you can if you wish complete this whole process yourself by making the necessary calls and applications to each provider in turn.

This will of course be very time consuming and not necessarily any more beneficial for you. This is partly due to the reasons above as well as the final benefit of using I’m Insured. When you apply for life insurance through I’m Insured, you get the benefit of our discounted rates. This means we are very often cheaper than going to the providers direct.

That’s great, but why not just go back to the same comparison site I got my credit card from?

The automated price comparison sites will not give you accurate figures when you ask for a quote online once diabetes is factored into the equation. In fact, using a price comparison site to get quotes for life insurance with diabetes is pretty much the same process as going to each of the providers individually. Additonally, they often spend lots on money on prime time TV ads, as a result their prices often aren't as good as ours either.

What have I got to lose?

Not a lot really. There’s no obligation to using our services. We don’t charge any fees and we won’t put pressure on you to make a decision. We want you to have as much time as you feel you need in order to do so.

In short, we want to understand you and your needs, give you all the options available to you with accurate prices, then let you decide in your own time what option you would like to choose. So if you are thinking about life insurance and you are wondering how your diabetes will affect a policy, get in touch with us and let us explain all.

Quotezone reviewed the quote requests generated on their insurance comparison service between Jan and March 2013. They took the cheapest from the median quote produced for each client to produce a ‘representative’ saving. More than fifty percent of quotes achieved a representative saving of this amount or more. The savings you could achieve are dependent on your personal circumstances and how you obtained your current insurance policy.
